Take a look at these recent statistics published by a consortium using data from multiple sources in Kitsap County. You’ll notice that nearly 1/4 of our 8th graders in Kitsap County reported seriously thinking about suicide. Another alarming statistic is found in this resource was the number of people who have a loaded and unlocked firearm in their home. I wonder (worry) about how many of these teens live in homes with access to firearms. We need to take care of our vulnerable youth and make sure deaths on our county do not rise because they have access to loaded guns.

A Rising Sea
Drug overdoses and deaths are on the rise everywhere and Kitsap County is no exception. We need to care for our addicts and provide social services early in order to thwart these deaths. Comprehensive and wrap around services are needed for our vulnerable people so that they do it feel that they need to turn to drugs. We need to provide services without the stigma to residents who ask for help.
No Excuses
Since sharing with friends and community members that I plan to run as a write-in candidate for coroner many people have shared troubling stories with me privately. One pervasive theme is long wait times for a deputy coroner to show up. One woman shared that when her grandma passed away on a Sunday morning in the living room of the family home she and her family waited 3 hours for the deputy coroner to arrive. Long wait times are unacceptable. The coroner’s office is centrally located in Kitsap County. It takes an hour (or less) to get anywhere in our county from the location. Demand change and greater sensitivity!
Welcome
I am beginning a new adventure and am glad you are checking in with me to learn more about it. I decided to run as a write in candidate for Kitsap County Coroner. Why? Well, that is a loaded question. I decided to run primarily after learning that this position has been held by conservative men term after term with few exceptions. Also, I learned that this position was, in all practicality a waste of tax payer money. The position of Coroner is unnecessary because we’ve reached a population threshold to reorganize and hire our own Medical Examiner. It’s time to dissolve the elected position of Coroner. As it stands we contract out to other counties for our medical examinations at a rate higher than the salary of Coroner which is currently nearly $128k. I plan to share this information with voters in the coming months. Finally, I’m running to bring awareness to Kitsap about our rising death rates due to suicide and drug and alcohol abuse. We need to implement best practices to care for our residents and lower those death rates. Stay tuned for more blog posts about this journey.
